Issue #2 - May

A Column by

Vigilante

This biggest f'n movie mark is here now, with the second issue of Movie Marks. That's right, the man whose life is always engulfed in the film world. We got quite a bit to get to this issue, so let's hop right to it.

Recent News/Gossip....

-Apparently, the long delayed "Fantastic Four" film has gotten its first foot out of the grave. According to Variety, Peyton Reed, who directed the cheerleader comedy Bring It On, will now be helming the project. Great, so now we get to see the Human Torch cracking corny ass jokes, and dancing to a wack ass "Blaque" soundtrack. As long as Kirsten Dunst isn't apart of it.

-When asked who should play the new James Bond, former 007 Roger Moore said the shoes should be filled by Cuba Gooding Jr. He said, "Its about time a black man played Bond." Um....ok.

-The Mummy Returns stars are already discussing Mummy 3. Rachel Weiz says she won't return, but Vosloo is already saying he will do it again.

-It appears that miss Joanie "Chyna" Laurer is in the running for the part of Wonder Woman in the super heroines film of the same name. I think Chyna has the physical prowess to handle the role, but is she really attractive enough to take on Wonder Woman? I mean, she still resembles a man-beast to me sometime. Leave it to Sandra Bullock

-"Buffy The Vampire Slayer" is switching homes this fall. Its moving from the WB network to the struggling UPN network. UPN is looking for something to keep it afloat with their bread and butter "Star Trek: Voyager" ending this year. Why do I have a feeling UPN is going to be a big ass hole and put Buffy on their network against "Angel" on the WB.

-Final piece of news, rumor has it that Tommy Lee Jones will not be returning to reprise his Men In Black role for the coming sequel. Apparently he wanted $40 million to reprise the role. My God Tom, the first movie wasn't even that damn good. Can we get a Ghostbusters 3...anyone..please?

Don't Miss this Movie in the Theaters....

WATCH

Remember The Titans

Remember the Titans Why? - Somehow, this film slipped past me while it was in the theaters. However, I had the chance to catch it on DVD the other day and I truly enjoyed it. It is an uplifting sports drama profiles real-life suburban Virginia football coach (Washington) trying to lead one of high school athletics' first integrated teams to the state championship.

Avoid this Movie At All Costs...

FEAR

Joe Dirt

Joe Dirt Why? - This movie looked like ish, it smelled like ish, and it bombed like ish at the box office. David Spade needs to realize he's not as funny as he thinks he is. Don't even go pass this theatre on the way to the movie you're trying to see. Go outside, and come in through the side door...you don't want to hear an inch of this film.

Predictions...

-With the first movie being complete crap, and with the omen that sequels tend to me worse that original movies. I see "Mummy Returns" being a complete pile of cow manuer, but pulling in a massive 60 million dollars in its opening weekend.

- I predict that the studio behind Angelina Jolie's "Original Sin" will ride the coatails of success that "Tomb Raider" creates for the star. Then, they will release the delayed movie in conjuction.

-I believe that "Scary Movie 2" will be 100 times worse than the original film, and will retreat to such low rent ways of getting comedy such as having a girl being killed by a hook to the vagina.

Upcoming Movie Spoiler...

-We have some news (from Darkhorizons.com) about the upcoming Scooby Doo live action film, regarding one of their major sets.

- A big portion of the running time is set on 'Spooky Island', a giant island theme park filled with all sorts of crazy sh*t. The first set we visted was a foyer entrance and banquet room which in the story are both part of a 'ride' thus a working carriage on a track rides through the middle of both. The production design is phenomonal, certainly the film's strongest standing point from what we saw. There's severed albino giant doll heads hanging from the ceiling, chandeliers with monster faces cut into them, and giant cool looking gargoyles galore. In the dining room there was something called the 'Wall of Meat' (I think there's a nightclub in Sydney called that), which I won't spoil but suffice it to say its kind of like that 'stomach mouth' effect in "John Carpenter's The Thing" but involving something else. The design in this area was done by Oscar winning "Babe" designer John Cox and took about a month to construct.

10 Movies I WANT TO SEE NOW!!!!

1.

Planet of the Apes

Tim Burton seems to have done it again, and has my mouth salivating for the release of this monster.
2. The Score Three of the best actors in Hollywood in one film together...nuff said.
3. Tomb Raider Finally, we get a new Indiana Jones type-flick, but this time with Angelina Jolie. Every little pervert is marking out.
4. Jurassic Park 3 Good lord, I almost forgot this movie was coming out this summer. I think this movie will follow the "Die Hard" series in trilogy standards. One=HOT, Two=Decent, and Three=Awesome.
5. Swordfish This hacker flick looks to be a major player in the market this summer. It looks like Hugh Jackman is going to have two great summers in a row.
6. Fast and the Furious This film was supposed to come out in the spring, and now appears to be a sumemr film. I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but the new trailer has just peaked my interest for this bad boy even more.
7. A.I. Spieldberg's version of "Bicentennial Man". Knowing Speildberg, he's going to have every person in the theater balling their eyes out.
8. Shrek This CGI film looks downright hilarious, as it takes a sarcastic slap at all the classic disney tales.
9. Rush Hour 2 I was beginning to think Chris Tucker fell off the face of the eart. Its good to see he and Jackie are doing a round two. They have some pretty big shoes to fill after the awesome "Shanghai Noon"
10. Evolution From the creators of Ghostbusters? I'm there!!

Recent Trailers...

Planet of the Apes. - Click Here to View - Tim Burton is now officialy one notch under God. This trailer will make you go total ape sh*t, and once you come down off the high...you'll find yourself waiting in line for this film that still has a month or two to release. Mark Walhbergh may actually have top billing in a blockbuster film. Rating: out of 4

The Score - Click Here to View - Ok...Robert Dinero, Edward Norton, Marlon Brando, and Angela Bassett all in the same film and you a trailer to convince you to see it. Are you freakin' human?!? This movie is going to be the sleeper of the summer with four great actors, and a "final score" heist that looks too intense for words.  Rating: out of 4

Swordfish - Click Here to View - When I first heard that Travolta was playing another over the top villian, I became a little disturbed. I mean, Battlefield Earth was utter cow feces. But, after seeing this trailer, I was led to believe that everyman is allowed to make a mistake...as long as their return is through the roof. This movie, appears to be through the damn atmosphere, and X-men stars Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry come along for the fun. And truthfully, what bad film has Don Cheadle been in? The hacker film for the future!!   Rating: out of 4

TOP 10 Most Powerful Movies NOW!

(based on recent awards, box office, rentals, etc.)

1.

The Mummy Returns

Any movie with Brendan Fraser has a chance of being the worst film ever, however there is so much promotion behind this bad boy that I don't think anything but a massive war could stop its domination.
2. Driven Somehow, with all the 0 star reviews, this movie pulled off a number one spot in this past box office. Of course, see the above movie to see how long that's going to last.
3. Spy Kids The little kiddie film that could. This movie haas been going strong for some time, and is already in works for a sequel. Who says Robert Rodriguez can't cut it anymore?
4. Bridget Jones Diary I want to, but have yet to see this film. But it appears Renee Zellweger has yet another hit on her hands. This film is doing well on both the male and female fronts.
5. Charlie Angels The Angels kicked some ass at the box office, and now that it's available for rent, the ass kicking continues. Girl Power, err something like that.
6. Nurse Betty Not sure if this film has anything to do with the reason why Bridget is doing so well, or if Bridget is causing people to check this out. Either way, Nurse Betty is doing damn good on the video rental market.
7. Blow Still haven't seen it, and don't really care to either. This film didn't do what it should have in the box office, but it opened many a eyes of the critics.
8. Along Came A Spider Despite some mediocre reviews, this film proves to have to strong legs that kept it in the top 5 for quite some time.
9. Gladiator With the new movie "Knight's Tale" coming out. People are having  a harder time forgetting Gladiator then they should.
10. Superman The classic original comes to dvd, and is set to kick asss and take names.  This is the epitome of all comic book films.

Must See Movie that's Filming Now...

Blade 2 - The sequel to the unknown comic book movie, Blade. This movie was a breath of fresh air, and turned many people on to a comic franchise that not too many people were aware of. Well, Wesley has suited back up and is now hard at work on the sequel to Blade which is shaping up to be even bigger than the first. Here the vampires must call a truce with Blade to take on an even bigger foe. Whenever this film is ready to go, I'll be one of the first in line.

Where the hell is this DVD?...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze Why?: Yes, the original film is on a very pitiful dvd film. Yet, the rest of the series hasn't had that honor. TMNT is a pinnacle in the history of action cartoons/films and deserves the dvd treatment more than any other franchise I know.

What We Would Greenlight...

Steel

Headshot

Headshot

Yeah, I know this movie has already been made. Unfortunately, it was made in the complete and total wrong way. The "Steel" comic book was one of the best comics ever created, and gave African-Americans a real superhero. However, Shaquille "act as bad as I shoot freethrows" O'Neal completely ass fucked this film. He didn't want to be associated with the violence that the comic book had, so he had the film toned down to a pg rating, and threw just about every inch of goodness about the comic book out the window.
Starring: Michael Clarke Duncan (John Henry Irons/Steel), Amanda Quick (Vanessa Williams) Natasha (Lark Voorhies), White Rabbit (Vivica Fox), Skorpio (Spike Lee).

Director: James Wong (from Final Destination)

Budget: $65 Million

Predicted Gross: $90 Million
