| That's right its
time for another one. This time I tackle the ever hard question of should we play the
games. That's just it, they are games, nothing more and nothing less. No matter how much
money is pumped into these games they will always be games. Coaches know it, the players
know it and most importantly the fans know it. Its just too bad that it takes something
like this week's ordeal to remind us. Sports
issues become irrelevant. Will Bonds get to 70? Are replacement refs good enough? Will
Michael come back? These things all of a sudden seem to mean very little, and you almost
feel guilty for thinking about them at all. Baseball games have been canceled the past
couple days, Paul Tagliabue has just made the decision that the NFL games this weekend
will be canceled and for the most part college football will be played. Are these the
right decisions? I'm not so sure there is a right and wrong decision. On one hand we need
to "stand still" as goc put it. We need to spend much needed time with family
and friends. The problem is that many Americans associate the great American sports of
football and baseball with gatherings of friends and family. Then again the players have
friends and family too, should they be forced to play?
I'm very happy that there will be some college games played
this weekend. *EDITOR'S NOTE: As of Thursday afternoon, nearly every
college conference and sport has done a 180 and decided there will be no games this
weekend.* I think as a nation we need it. God knows that the terrorists have
accomplished what they set out to do by bringing the world's biggest powerhouse of
commerce to a complete halt. Part of me says we need to show the world that we will not be
put down by this horrendous event. That we can pull together and get life back on track,
but is it too early????? Most of all who am I to answer this question of should the
athletes play? I don't have any family in New York or D.C. I don't have any friends over
there, and as far as I know I don't know anyone who was visiting there at the time. But as
an American watching this unfold on American soil I can appreciate any American's
(player's, coach's, fan's, victim's, and even the media's) wishes to play or not to play.
I will 100% back whatever decision is made and won't second guess the people who have the
final say. Those who know me know I'm not what you would call a very religious man but
this definitely causes us all to think. May god bless us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
......and please remember the word "American" is always capitalized!!!!!!!!
