WELCOME to the first edition of Sh*t You Should Know, now relax and get some info and opinions on what's about to take place in the world of entertainment.

THEATER:

-As you all know this Friday marks the theater release of Kevin Smith's last of his Jersey films, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. I'm going to cry when the characters finally walk of into the sun, but Kevin's next two projects sound more than worth it. The first one is a drama about parenting, as he has recently become one. The other is the much rumored Fletch Won, starring Jason Lee as a young Fletch. MARK OUT!

-After a summer of huge movie after huge movie each week, we're headed for a slump for a month or so. Every big picture is slated towards more around Thanksgiving and Christmas time and because of that there isn't a big budget movie anywhere to be found. Usually that's a good thing, but none of these movies that are coming soon hardly seem worth seeing. Aside from Big Trouble, Don't Say A Word, and Zoolander it looks like I might not be in the theater for a long time. But I'm the same guy who got suckered into paying to see Valentine, so I'll probably see a teen horror movie or two. On that subject...

-There's an unusually high number of horror movies scheduled for the coming weeks, as always this type of movie is released around Halloween, but there seems to be even more than usual. For those of you that thought the teen horror fest was over check out Jeepers Creepers, 13 Rooms, and Soul Survivors to name a few.

DVD:

-The big screen might not be full of big releases, but there are tons of great DVDs headed for your personal small screen. To those of you who missed Blow, Joe Dirt, Memento, Spy Kids, A Knight's Tale, and Along Came a Spider...here's your chance. If you only can buy one movie this fall...MAKE SURE IT'S MEMENTO! The best movie of 2001 is making it's way to DVD, and it might not be getting an amazing treatment, but the movie is good enough to stand on it's own. Snatch this DVD the first possible day, I promise you won't be disappointed. I also know you'll be routing along with me that Guy Pearce get's his deserved Oscar nomination for that film.

-Not only are there some new movies coming to DVD, but there are quite a few that are coming that are well overdue. The cult hit Killer Klowns from Outer Space finally gets the DVD treatment. This has got to be the funniest horror movie ever made. Also coming is the original Terminator with one hell of a Collector's Edition treatment. And of course, the best TV show of our generation, The Simpsons get's it's first DVD box sex for Season One. It's a great time to own a DVD player.

MUSIC:

-As you can tell by taking a look at the music releases on the left, it's not a good time to be a hip hop fan. There hasn't been a truly solid release since D-12's instant classic, Devil's Night. Sure Beanie Sigel, Kurupt, Jadakiss, and others have come close, but aside from a handful of tracks the CDs are disappointing.

-But if hip hop isn't your bag, if you're into R&B or Rock, then this fall should treat you well. R&B fans get Brian McKnight, Mary J. Blige, AND Macy Gray...good gawd! That's like DMX, Jay Z, and Snoop putting out CDs in the same month! Krazy Ass! Rock fans get a nice back to back dose of POD and System of a Down too.

VIDEOGAMES:

-This is the time where PS2 brings out all it's big guns and makes you spend so much money you can't even think about buying an Xbox or a Gamecube. Just look at all the big guns that are coming out: Silent Hill 2, Half-Life, Devil May Cry, Crash, and Metal Gear 2. I don't know one PS2 owner who wouldn't want each and every one of those games.

-Where in the hell did this game come from? The game I speak of is Top Gun for PS2. Did I not get the memo? I was unaware that this game was even in production. The original Top Gun for NES has to be considered a classic by all, even if you couldn't refuel to save your life. But as most remakes turn out to be shit, I'm not crossing my fingers. But if it's even garbage, there's still more than enough good PS2 releases to keep everyone happy.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW, hopefully you learned a few things and you're entertainment IQ has gone up a few points. If not...you're hopeless.
