Turtle Power

A story by

Vigilante

Throughout the early 90's, there was a phenomenon that had managed to sweep itself across the nation. Parents everywhere knew them, and the kids adored them. 4 simple creatures managed to enter the hearts of people through movies, cartoons, comics, and even music. There was no way of escaping the wrath of a certain four. Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michaelangelo...better known as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And though their popularity has faded, every now and then..in the back of people's minds. The question of...what ever happened to those Ninja Turtles? Well, ask no more.

Depending on when you joined the Turtle bandwagon, there were different ways you saw them. The original Ninja Turtle comic book (not the Archie based crap) was dark and brooding, reminiscent of the Batman series. However, when the cartoon version of these heroes was created...the tone of Eastman and Laird's creation was a lot lighter. This wasn't a bad thing, as the general idea was still there. However, things started to become a little commercial towards the end of the run. The original TMNT movie was a master piece, and blended the dark elements of the original comic with the lighthearted ideas of the cartoon. The sequel did not, and made things worse with an interesting Turtles on Tour Music Rock band. WTF was going on?!?When they tried to remedy this dying fan base with the third film, the fans had been burnt out by the Turtles and moved on to the now defunct Power Ranger fad.

The Turtles tried to go the way of the Power Rangers, and made a short lived Live action show. I thought the show was very well done, but apparently it didn't get the attention that the Rangers got when they first came about. So it was quickly pulled. So, then the Turtles were pulled once again from the limelight. Once again giving a tease of returning, but not staying long enough for anyone to take notice.

Well, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are about to give it one more try. With such a profitable franchise, the people can't really let it go. And quite frankly, I don't want them too. With a CGI Film (by John Woo) in the works, as well as mumblings of a 4th live action film. Those Turtle fans may have something to cheer about. But right now, I have something to show you that will definately peek your interest until our next official meeting with the Turtles. A 5 minute pilot clip of the CGI TMNT television show. This show has not been picked up by any networks, and thus is another failed attempt by the Turtles. But, look at this clip and think of what could've been (and still might be), and just let your mouth water at what Woo can do to these guys. This pilot shows that the Turtles still have it in them, and that the recreation of the feel from the first film can happen more than once (Though I loved the 3rd film that no one saw). I leave you, with the link to the Official Turtle site, and the link to the site where you can download the clip (its a long download..but its worth it).
