Does Smash-Mouth Football Pack Too Hard a Punch?

A Story by

Brunswick Stew

"With all due disrespect, the XFL is the trashiest creation in legitimate-sports history." - Dave Kindred, contributing writer for The Sporting News

"The Rock announced that critics of the XFL should be put on a bus, driven on to the Golden Gate Bridge and one by one thrown off.
If forced to watch a full XFL game, some of us might take the bus, then jump off the bridge." - Ed Schuyler Jr., AP Sports Writer

Criticism is a pain, isn't it?

It seems as if sports columnists around the world cannot help but bring out the negative side of Vince McMahon's latest creation. The mere mention of the name "McMahon" brings laughter to the so-called sports gurus. Foretellings were made throughout the gray pages that this "minor leauge football" would soon suffer a tremendous flop.

The only thing that this writer sees taking a "tremendous flop" are the negative criticisms that abound the XFL.

Wrestling fans are very familiar with the name of Vince McMahon. Despite the lack of coverage and its deeming of "sports entertainment" instead of an actual sport itself, the World Wrestling Federation continues to show week after week just how effective it is in silencing its naysayers with continuous excellent ratings and an all-around great program.

The XFL will be no different. Combined with explosive talent on and off the field as well as the still-growing fan base, the last thing that will come to pass is a decline in human interest.

We are reminded of a common saying from time to time. "Out with the old, and in with the new." We are introduced with new styles and trends every single breathing moment of our lives. Like kinky sex, prime time sitcoms, and wristwatches, some of these trends will never die. Like the afro haircut, the "open the can of peanuts and a snake jumps out" trick, and RC Cola, many fads wither and die.

I like to associate this great new brand of football with kinky sex.
