The Invasion Cometh!

An Article by

GYEAH Staff

Whenever you talk to a wrestling fan, you often find yourself in a conversation about how bad you want to see a match between your favorite WWF stars and WCW stars.  Unfortunately, with all the hate coming from each respective company towards the other...it didn't appear that that was ever going to happen. That is until Vince McMahon bought out the rights to the WCW. Now, the 2nd greatest wrestling angle in the world is upon us....and we here at Gyeah.com certainly can't let it past without getting our 2 cents in. So, sit back and check out the matches and our thoughts on the ppv  Invasion.

Gyeah.com Thoughts

Aron Rave's Thoughts: Three weeks ago, Vince McMahon failed to make WCW a true menace against WWF, story-line speaking. Booker T vs. Buff Bagwell was one of the worst main-event of the year and the match was pure husk. A lot of people lost faith into this "InVasion", as WCW did not have, except Booker T, any main-eventer. Where’s Goldberg, Flair, Sting? Sitting at home, waiting for their money they don’t have to work for. So why WCW would be dangerous without them? The addition of ECW was capital. Now that former WWF and current ECW wrestlers are together with WCW, it is really an InVasion. Of course, it’s not Austin vs. Goldberg yet, but still, I can believe ECWCW is a threat to the WWF, of course, story-line speaking. As for the PPV:

Earl Hebner vs. Nick Patrick, ref vs. ref:

Please God, let it be quick. I give the win to Earl, because Nick is evil, ya know.

WWF: 1 ECWCW: 0

Tazz vs. Tajiri:

I love Tajiri! I simply love him! But Tazz is in need of a push, so I give him the win.

WWF: 1 ECWCW: 1

X-Pac vs. Kidman:

X-Pac is the WWF Light-heavyweight champion, a title that mean NOTHING. Kidman is the WCW Cruiserweight champion, a title some of the best cruiserweight (including Syxx/X-Pac) have fought for. Kidman needs the win.

WWF: 1 ECWCW: 2

Edge and Christian vs. Mike Awesome and Lance Storm:

This match will be a SHOW STEALER. Word. 4 incredible workers (Canadians by the way), 4 future stars. My bet on E&C.

WWF: 2 ECWCW: 2

APA vs. Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire:

The APA is very popular, for a reason I don’t understand at all. Chuck and Sean are great workers, but have as much charisma than Steve Blackman (ok maybe not but still). I don’t know who will win… let’s go with Chuck and Sean.

WWF: 2 ECWCW: 3

Rob Van Dam vs. Jeff Hardy, Hardcore Championship:

If you don’t know this fun fact, RVD vs. Jeff Hardy had a match on RAW in 1997, where RVD was given the name Mr. Monday Night by Jerry Lawler and the then-19 years old jobber Jeff Hardy was called a Jon Bon Jovi wannabe, also by Lawler. RVD won in 1997, now 3 TLC later, is Jeff ready for his vengeance? No.

WWF: 2 ECWCW: 4

Trish Stratus and Litas vs. Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler, bra and panties match:

4 hot chicks in a bra and panties match, how better can it get? Well, if it goes quick, gonna be fun to watch. Trish and Lita with the victory, I smell a split in the Hardy Boys.

WWF: 3 ECWCW: 4

Team WWF (Austin, Angle, ‘Taker, Kane, Jericho) vs. Team ECWCW (Booker T, DDP, Dudley Boyz, Rhyno)

See, this is what I was talking about. The Dudley Boyz and Rhyno, has good as they can be, have NO BUSINESS in a PPV main-event. They really need to get Goldberg off his ass. Now this match could go two way:

ECWCW screw team WWF with something or somebody or whatever, win the match, and we get to watch WCW RAW this Monday. I would like to see Austin go back to ECW or WCW, as he wrestled for both.

WWF: 3 ECWCW: 5

OR, Team WWF wins, Vince is happy, the fans get a score of:

WWF: 4 ECWCW: 4

b3: Traditionally I'm not one to side w/ the good guys... But in this instance.... I gotta go w/ the WWF. I can see something working out where the WCW/ECW wins.... but being a WCW and ECW hater that I am... I wish to see the WWF triumphant. It's too bad that HHH couldnt be healthy to join in on the fun... but I hope to see Austin, taker, kane, y2j, and angle murder the much less talented WCW/ECW roster.

Vigilante: I have very mixed feelings towards this whole ppv. As of late, the WWF has become utter and complete horseshit. Austin became a fag, Benoit/HHH injured, Molly & Spike angle became show opener material....it was just horrible. Then, like a bat out of hell....the WCW angle is thrown into the mix...and though all is not perfect again. It certainlly patched over the wounds a bit.

We finally got the chance to see actual wrestlers wrestle. WWF (withe exception of like 5 people) consist of brawlers, and that is something that gets tired rather quickly. With the WCW entering the picture, wrestlers like Kidman, Palumbo, Ohaire, Booker T all get the chance to show their much underated talents to the world. Then (with probably the best RAW IS WAR in about 5 years) ECW returns to give the lagging storyline and sales some more push. (I'll get on why its lagging in just a minute). That just pushed the entire storyline over the top, and gave the wwf even more of a talented roster.

Unfortunately, this isn't the WWF vs. WCW war I've always dreamt about as a child. There are no Flair's, Nash's, Sting's, Steiners, or even Goldberg's representing WCW. WWF is missing *cough* Rock *cough*, Benoit, and the man of the year HHH. That is a huge disadvantage too all involved, and if it wasn't for the more talented ECW roster..this whole angle would be pretty ass backwards.

But enough about the piss poor turn about of this angle...lets discuss the matches. For the first time in awhile...the WWF has new blood and matches to bring to the table. That, in itself, is a good thing. The way the matches have become...however is just horrible. Instead of seperateing the matches they slap 5 WWF main eventers into the ring with 5 wcw/ecw ones. Thats not what I want to see. I don't want to see a ten man brawl...I wanna see some GOD DAMN wrestling. Angle vs Bagwell (before being fired), Austin vs. Booker T, Kane vs Rhyno. ONE on ONE matches. Not only is the main event a group match, but there are more talent put togetehr in tag teams with Awesome and Storm. Probably two of the most talented people the wwf/wcw has, and they throw them in a tag match. That is just plain dumb, and has made the final decision that will have Vigilante not watch this crap.

The matches I look foward to are the Jeff Hardy vs. RVD; Tazz vs. Tajiri, and the Xpac vs. Kidman. Wrestling matches with wrestlers. Those matches will make or break the entire show, and since none of those have main even stars in it...their time length will be incredibly short.

I think the ppv will dissapoint many, unless the oobvious happens when either Angle or Jericho switch sides and head to the WCW side. No matter what, at the end of this bad boy....WCW needs at least one marquee name. Booker T and DDP are not well known enough to carry the talente people of WCW. Which means, the second this WWF angle is over...the WCW won't really have anything to bring attention to it. Which is a shame. Hell, it should be called the WWF/ECW angle...cause right now they have the bigger talent pool. I just hope I'm wrong about this ppv....or this could be the nail in the coffin for the falling "Sports Entertainment"

Finale

So there you have it folks. Let us know what you think will happen at the ppv, your opinions on wrestling, or what you thought of the results all on the GYeah.com Wrestling Board. We look foward to your thoughts.
