Lately I've been
hearing some noise that needs to stop, and it needs to stop now. There have been
demonstrations and gatherings at my local university (Northern Iowa) where people have
gathered together to protest our country's actions in Afghanistan. I had no real problem
with these people gathering, but when one of them spoke up in a business law class of
mine...I'd had enough.
This kid was ranting and raving about how war is never the answer, and that
"innocent" civilians are dying in Afghanistan. Well, I'm all for everyone having
their own opinion, but this is just too much. Rather than snap on the bastard in front of
everyone, I'm going to snap here and now.
I'm sick of these people who are opposed to our actions in Afghanistan, as it seems to be
nothing more than propaganda to improve their self image, to look more compassionate, or
to in an attempt to be modern day "Hippies." I'm sorry, the revolution is over,
the hippies lost. The kid I spoke of earlier was in a business class, c'mon, is there any
other major where you're obviously going to be in any more servitude of the
"man"? Just because you have a hat that looks like it was knitted by my
grandmother, dress in the dark, and want to legalize pot doesn't mean you're a f*ckin
hippie. Our parents might have fought for causes that actually mattered to them and their
well-being, but you're just trying to look good. You want to be a part of that select
group, just like the fraternities that you claim to despise. (Note: I don't condone frats
or anal sex.)
You want to be considered the one with the balls to stand up to the man, and Fight the
Power ala Chuck D. But you're just another idiot with no logic and unfounded ideals.
You're the Flavor Flav of the Public Enemy of America, yelling and screaming about
nothing, with a goofy ass clock around your neck (Editor's Note: WTF?). There's a reason
there's a war being waged in Afghanistan and that there's "bombs over Taliban"
(Outkast style). You think that the one fact that one
"innocent" person might die is enough to not take up military actions? Well if
we're going to talk numbers, I can do the same:
5000+ People
died in less than a minute in New York City. People who had no clue that another country
had "declared" war on them. They were going on with their everyday lives while
in a hemisphere away, terrorists were throwing the rules of engagement out the window.
They didn't know they were in any danger or in a time of war when they forgot to kiss
their wives or children when they left for work that day. Now that's the definition of
innocent.
0 People
in Afghanistan are innocent. I'm obviously not condoning the senseless murdering of women,
children, and normal citizens, but the government (Taliban) of Afghanistan declared war on
the United States when it attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon and continues to do
so. The country of the United States is versus the country of Afghanistan. This isn't just
an army against an army, this is two nations and that means citizens vs. citizens. Sure we
might not be the one's pulling the triggers, but by letting a government hold power, you
in essence condone any action it takes. Afghans allow the Taliban to rule, now the whole
country will reap the consequences.
1 War
is being waged on our soil. After the attack in NYC and Washington, the war against
the U.S. hasn't stopped. Ask Tom Daschle or NBC and New York times workers if you think
I'm wrong? Ask postal workers who've seen their co-workers die because of the actions of
another nation. There's a war being waged on American soil, so wars SHOULD be raged on
theirs!
150 Million People
or 90% of the people of the United States are completely behind any actions being taken
against the Taliban and Afghanistan. Thousands of people in America have been directly affected
by the murder of their relatives or friends by Taliban actions. These and nearly the rest
of the population of the U.S. approve of any sort of military action that brings justice
back to the world. That punishes those that do wrong. When you're the president, your job
is to represent the people to the best of your abilities. To make decisions with the best
interests of the nation and its people in mind. Do you really think any president could,
or would ever want to oppose 90% of his constituents. It's just not sensible to think
there is any alternative.
5 Days
were given to the Taliban and Afghanistan to turn over Bin Laden and his cohorts. They
refused, forcing us to use force. What do you aspiring hippies want us to do? Wait until
another building drops? Wait until a few more thousand Americans are slain? If a stranger
drives a truck through your front door and drives over your whole family, then drives
away. Do you want to sit around a table and try and talk it out? Do you set a deadline,
then when they ignore it...do you just keep waiting? We're the most powerful nation in the
world, and George Bush is acting like it. And in my opinion, it's about f*cking time.
-Now's not the time to try and be a "hippie", it's the time to stand behind your
country and it's government, it's time to be a patriot!Discuss on the GYEAH.com Message Board |
