...damn

A Review by

Vigilante

It's been a few years, and the anticipation has been growing through the roof for this film. I thought the first Blade was pretty solid, however a bit flat in some areas..and a villian that left a little to be desired. "Blade 2" is here, and makes the Blade series improve tenfold.

"Blade 2" takes place two years after the original ends, and finds that Blade has been working with Scud (Norman Reedus), a brilliant slacker and inventor of devious weapons, to destroy any vampires that cross their paths. Blade has spent the last few years looking for his friend Whistler (who fans thought to be dead), but has been infected with the vampire virus and kept captive. Once Blade finds him, he is positioned by the Bloodpack (a group of vampires that were grouped to bring down Blade) to form a truce with the Vampire nation to take care of a greater threat than both of them. That threat are called the Reapers. They posses lighting speed and super inhuman power, are on a hunt not only for humans but also for vampires.

As far as story goes, this movie has it. It's not drawn out very well, but for the simplicity of this film it works. In fact, the story is nothing more than a set piece to get to the next action piece. Which is what comic books are all about. This film has more action scenes than the original, but still has moments for you to take a breather..and regroup.

The cast of this bad boy is very solid. Wesley and Kristofferson reprise their roles. Whistler gets a lot more screen time than before, and Blade shows more sides of his human nature than this one. He's still a bad ass, but he puts more to his character than before. The character of Skud is very well done, and its good to see the interaction between he and Blade's original weapon man (Whistler). The BloodPack (group of Vampires assembled to destroy Blade) are pretty solid. Only two of them are really of any importance. The rest are basically cattle for slaughter, but they all get a little chance to shine, and show off their different fighting style.

The best part of this film, which completely seperate it from Blade, is the main villian Nomac. GOD DAMN. This man is awesome, and truly is a legetimate threat to Blade. Unlike the original, we knew (till the very end) that Frost was really not that much of a threat. Here, Nomac is just as powerful as Blade (if not more so), and makes the final battle of this movie truly breathtaking. If you've ever wanted to see what a comic battle between to super-human characters..this is it.

This movie has more genres than the law allows. Action, horror, suspense, and some comedic elements that make comic books the popular hobby they are. But what really puts you in the mood of the comic has to be the action scenes. The camera angles in this bad boy are amazing. I mean, there are some times when the actual screen looks like a still from a comic book page. It's breathtaking. There is a time, in the first action scene, where its very obvious that CGI were used for some of the action. Normally, this would be a problem..but in this case. It's all good.

"Blade 2" is the fan's of the original Blade's wet dream. Everything you wanted is jam packed in here for you attention defecit bastards. This movie is flawless by any means, but its a damn fun ride that will definately have people talking about it afterwards. Let's here it for Blade 3.
