| While gyeah.com's 'Ladies Man' Goc was checking out that
"Crazy Beautiful" B.S...Vigilante here headed into the kiddie land to see what
"Cats & Dogs" had to offer. How was the newest family flick? Well, lets just
say that the things Vigilante and Goc go through for Gyeah.com is un-measurable. In 'Cats & Dogs', little puppy Lou (voiced by Tobey Maguire)
finds himself thrown into the middle of a life long war between cats & dogs. He is
thrusted into a mission led by Butch (Alec Baldwin) to protect a serum the father of the
Brady family is creating that will make a serum that will stop humans from having allergic
reations to dogs. The cats want to capture this serum so that the animals do not become
the dominant family pet. While doing this mission, Lou must decide if he will follow
his oders from Dog HQ..or follow his heart and be just a pet for the young boy of the
Brady's.
This fillm has NO humor. Nothing is funny. Not funny to
kids, not funny to adults. Its just a bunch of animals talking. The movie plays out the
cute storyline between the boy and his dog well, but everything else fails miserably. The
interaction between the dad an his son, the development of the cats, and most of
all....the war between the cats and dogs. I believed that the cats and the dogs would be
going in an all out war, and the audience would be left to decide which group of animals
they would root for. Instead, the film makes the cats the villians therefore the thought
of an actual battle is pretty much trivial cause we already know who's going to win.
The other thing about this film is that the animals are
done in different ways. The dogs are all basically computer generated to get their
voices/speaking ability done..while the cats are more or less puppets (from Jim Henson's
creature shop). I have no problem with puppets, but I think it would be best to choose on
or the other. Not use both.
This is a cute film, but is just that. It offers little to NO
laughs, and will bore the kids and just plan annoy the adults. It still appears that the
family film of the year came out in may with a big Green ogre. This movie isn't horrible,
its just not something I would ever watch again.
Rating: out of four.
