| John Travolta's career has been pretty spotty as of late. After seeing the
trailer for this film, it appeared that he had chosen a film that would get him back on
the right track again. Unfortunately, the trailer is very misleading. It gives away far
too much information in the story, and it makes the film seem a lot more suspenseful than
it truly ended up being. In "Domestic
Disturbance" a divorced father (John Travolta) discovers that his 11-year-old son's
(Matthew O'Leary) new stepfather (Vince Vaughn) is not what he made himself out to be
This film is boring. No other way about it...it just drags on and on. It has an
interesting premise, but unfortunately everything is very predictable and straightforward.
The film goes straight from point 'A' to point 'B' without taking any twists or hidden
roads to get there. There is no suspense, no intrigue, and nothing that would make this
film worth being released in a movie theatre.
Acting wise, this film is even worse. With the exception
of Vaughn, it appears that everyone in this film is just going through the motions.
Vaughn's evil character is completely stripped of all impact, because all the other
characters seem to know that in about 2 minutes..the director is going to yell
"cut". And the young man that plays Danny Morrison (Matthew O'leary) is annoying
as all hell.
Let us not forget the God awful ending of this film.
Somehow, the writer thought it would be great to take this film from being a suspenseful
(though lacking all suspense) thriller, into an action film. Travolta and Vaughn go at it
like Batman and the Joker in the final scene of "Batman", and becomes much more
of a laughing matter than a conclusion to a film. I mean, Vaughn's character is hit in the
head with a steel bat..and quickly hops back to his feet.
Domestic Disturbance ends with all the characters
forgiving each other for not believing in one another, and then running off into the
sunset like none of the events ever happened. I wish it was as easy for me to forget about
this film as it was for the characters in it.
