Family Man

What If...

A Review by

Vigilante

Have you ever thought to you yourself, "What would've happened if you said yes instead of no?" or "What would've happened if I took a left, instead of a right?" Well, those questions are the basis for "The Family Man".

In this cross between "Its a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Carol", Nicolas Cage plays Jack Campbell. A man who, thirteen years ago, promised his  law school-bound girlfriend Kate (Tea Leoni) that they'd only be apart for a year while he attented an internship in Lodon. Now, Jack is a rich business man who believes he has everything he ever wanted. So a young man named Cash, (Don Cheadle) gives Jack a glimpse of a life he would've lived had he not gotten on that plane. As he is initially thrown into his alter life, Jack is scared out of his mind. But he soon begins to see that maybe there is more to life than he already had.

This movie proved to be a lot better than I had imagined. I have grown to despise everything Nick Cage has done over the last few years, but this movie was a real surprise. Nick Cage was perfect as Jack Campbell playing both a man who was totally clueless about family life, and a man who was falling head over heels in love. He handled both parrallels with great accuracy. The other star of this film, Tea Leoni, was perfect. She played the simple house wife beautifully, and almost made me fall madly in love with her.

Its good to see a good family film that has a perfect blend of humor, story, and acting. And what really put this movie over for me was the lack of an overly hokey ending. You'll see what I mean when you see it, but its the perfect ending for the whole premise of this film. I recommend this film for all people with a heart, and who has questioned a decision in their life.
