I wanted to see
this movie since the day I first saw the trailer. Then the positive reviews upon positive
reviews (one coming from esteemed director Wes Craven) made my anticipation for this film
even greater. After seeing "The Others" is definately lived up to my
expectations...and beyond.
On the secluded Isle of Jersey in the final days of World War II, a young woman waits for
her beloved husband to return from the front. Grace (Nicole Kidman) has been raising her
two young children alone in a beautiful, cavernous, Victorian mansion, the one place she
believes them to be safe. But they are not safe. Not anymore. When three new servants
arrive to replace the ones that inexplicably disappeared, startling, supernatural events
begin to unfold. Grace's daughter reveals she has been communicating with unexplained
apparitions. At first, Grace is reluctant to believe in her children's frightening
sightings, but soon, she too begins to sense that intruders are at large.
"The Others" takes the psychological thriller and mixes it perfectly with the
world of the supernatural creating a chilling and breathtaking film. This film (with Rush
Hour 2) has put back a nice breath of air into the growingly tired films of this summer.
The others is dark, creepy, funny, and smart. I REFUSE to give any plot points away, as it
will take away from the overall effect of this film. All I will say is...SEE THIS DAMN
MOVIE NOW!!!Once again, Nicole Kidman makes me her
bitch this summer(Moulin Rouge). And for the second time in a row, she displays a very
different character from anything she's ever done before. What really puts this film over
the top though is the performace from the two child actors. I usually find children actors
to be completely annoying, but here they are perfect..and breathe life and direction into
this flick.
I can say nothing else great about this film, except that
you need to see it now. To hell with that American Pie B.S, see THIS film. I gaurantee you
that you will not be dissapointed.
