Well, I had the chance to check out "Saving Silverman"
this past weekend since there wasn't really anything I wanted to see that came out this
week. Although I was thrown off by a few things, I really enjoyed this
"younger" version of "There's Something About Mary".
In "Saving Silverman" two friends (Jack Black &
Steve Zahn) try to save their friendship and their friend David Silverman (Jason Biggs)
from the manipulative hands of the gorgeous psychiatrist Judith, played by Amanda
Peet. The friends try everything from bribery to hooking Silverman up with his past love
Sandy, played by Amanda Detmer ("Final Destination"). Unfortunately, none of
that works and time is running out because Sandy is a weekend away from becoming a nun.
One thing left to do, kidnap Judith and fake her death.
This movie is over the top humor. If you like movies made by the
Farley brothers, or you were entertained by "Dude Where's My Car" then you'll
enjoy this movie. There are some very funny moments in this film, and the very simplistic
plot is psuedo made for this film. Unlike her role in "The WHole Nine Yards"
Amanda Peet isn't as funny as usual..she's used more as a sex piece (I mean you stare at
her her boob revealing dresses like 3 or four times in the movie) with a little
humor every now and then. Instead, the humor comes from the hilarious duo of Jack Black
and Steve Zahn. That duo is hilarious, and I would love to see another movie with just the
two of them.
Jason Biggs, on the other hand, I'm not to happy with. In this movie he looks out of
place. I find it hard believing that Biggs's is a near aged friend with the likes of Steve
Zahn and Jack Black. I know there are many more people out there besides Biggs to put in
this role, but yet they chose the pie humper. That=an enigma of mine. I do, however, think
that the interaction between he and Peet is good and the dynamics between the two
characters personality is both seen through emotions and their physical attributes.
All in all, I got a damn good laugh out of this film. There really isn't a time where I'm
not laughing my head off, except for the scenes of oddness when all three of the males are
on the screen. I would recommend this film for anyone who wants to laugh their ass of one
weekend. Its smart enough, funny enough and the duo of Zahn and Black are more than enough
to get you through this film.
