Unbreakable? More like
fragile.
A Review by
Vigilante

Bruce Willis stars as David Dunn, the sole survivor of a
devastating train wreck. Samuel L. Jackson co-stars as Elijah Price, a mysterious stranger
who offers a bizarre explanation as to why David escaped without a single scratch, an
explanation that threatens to change David's family and life forever.
Finally, another film that doesn't have to be slam bam break neck
speeed throughout the entire film. "Unbreakable" tells a story, a very
interesting story that may take awhile to evolve but has a very human and realistic
element to it that makes it believable. Bruce has found his niche outside of saying Yippe
Ki Ya Moth...well you know the line.
Samuel L. Jackson is perfect for this role, he character is a bit
wordy at times, but this film relies more on words than actions. So its not that much of a
bad thing, as it helps intesify the the story.
Unfortunately, with all the wonderful buildup and great story
telling..the audience receives a slap in the face for the ending. I won't say its as
horrible as I originally thought when leaving the theatre, but its not a great one. It
kind of seems that the director spent so much energy and thought on the film itself, that
when brought with the thought that he had to close it all up...he was left with nothing.
And instead just taked on some things in the editing room. It leaves the movie goers
feeling very empty, and makes the trip almost not worthwhile.
I tried to give this review with the most non-spoliers possible.
I think I've succeeded. I can't honestly tell people what to do with this film. You're
either going to hate it, or love it. I'm not sure what side of the line I'm on right now,
and perhaps after another viewing this rating will be higher. But after the slow pace of
the film to deliver such an interesting and rich story, the ending is so dissapointing
that it ruined the entire film for me. That and the fact that, unlike the same Director's
other movie "Sixth Sense" I saw this film's ending coming a mile away. So, I
tell all of you who choose to see this film. Go in with trepedation, its either going to
be the worst movie you've seen this year, or the best. If it wasn't for that ending, it be
the best.
