The Life

A Review by

Vigilante

Ginuwine has had a lot of adversities as of late with the passing of both his parents in less than a years time. He was considering taking his own life, but thanks to some friends they got him to see that tehy would want 'G' to continue doing what he was put here to do. Make music. This time around though, Ginuwine cuts ties with his long time manager/producer Timbaland and features production from various producers. Timbaland still does one track, but for an artist who has had no albums produced by anyone BUT Timbo. It should be interesting to see how the album turns out. Let's take a look...

Why Not Me?  Here Ginuwine sings asking the question why she's playing hard to get and why she won't give 'G' the time of day. "Is it that he's too ghetto?" as Ginuwine says. I doubt it, but the track is still pretty hot and a good opener to the cd. The "Roger Troutman"-esque computer sound at the end is not needed.

$1.25

There It Is The first single off the album is the male comeback to the bashing receieved from Destiny's Child. He talks about how his woman keep complaining about he's not spending enough time with her, while he's out there working to pay the bills and car notes. Meanwhile, she's not doing a damn thing. Nice track.

"I'm not doing this sh*t for nothin. I pay the car note, light bill, house note. What you think this sh*ts for nothin? You not workin, so what more do you want?" - Ginuwine

$2.50

2 Way This song is pretty corny. Ginuwine tells girls to hit him up on his two way pager. Its like he's doing a commercial for page one, and I'm just not feelin it. The beat is pretty sweet, but not enough to pull this song from its abysmal hell.

$.10

Difference On this cut, Ginuwine sings about how a girl has changed his life and made him fall so deep in love. This is a very pretty song, unfortunately Ginuwine's voice isn't strong enough to give this song the power and emotion is truly deserves. That  Roger Troutman digital voice pops up again....Troutman is turning over in his grave.

$.50

So Fine I am a little slow here, but this beat sounds a lot like a Timbaland biter by the name of Shakespere. Anyway, this is another corny ass song. Ginuwine talks about this girl is so fine, fine fine, that she's all mine, mine, mine. Who wrote this crap?!

$.05

Tribute To A Woman –  This is a nice slow song where Ginuwine sings to a woman about how she can't be held down...this is her world. Once again, this is a good song. But Ginuwine's voice is whining after awhile.

$.50

Why Did You Go?– Ginuwine asks why the woman he wanted took her love away, and begs for her to come back. This is a traditional r&b track that any regular schmoe could come up with. Nothing bad about it, but there's nothing rememberable about it either. That 'Troutman' voice occurs again.

$.20

How Deep Is Your Love?- Nice beat, and in this track Ginuwine asks how deep does a girls love go...meaning...can he hit that yet. Another generic r&b track with a very nice beat. GOD DAMN THAT TROUTMAN SOUND GINUWINE!!!!

"How Deep is your love girl, lets get seroius. How deep is your love girl, I'm so curious. How deep is your love girl, can I fall in it. How deep is your love, can I get close to it." -Ginuwine

$1.00

That's How I Get Down (ft. Ludacris)The Timbaland produced track on the album, and even it is not up to the standards that Tim has been setting for himself lately. Its a head knockin laid back track, but its not something you'll remember after hearing it a few times...which is an occurence for most anything Timbo produces. I guess he just saw how mediocre the rest of this album was, and said.."Why should I try?" Even the hot Ludacris couldn't move this decent track to the upper echelon.

$.50

Show After The Show  – This song is pretty hot, and it talks about how a girl wants to go to Ginuwine's "show" after the show. The hook is pretty catchy, and the beat has some nice guitar strings workin throughout it.

$1.20

Role Play- This is one of Ginuwine's freaky tracks, where he tells a girl how they should play a little game a fantasy and role play. Its a cool song, but its topic is to sexual to make it a heartfelt song, and the tempo and beat for the track is not sexy enough to make it a love making track. So this whole song defeats its own purpose.

$.50

Open Arms – This is a very very pretty song, I didn't think Ginuwine had it in him. On this track, Ginuwine sings to a girl about how he wants to be the one that she reaches out for when she has problems, and he reassures her that he will be there with open arms. The song builds up more and more emotion as it goes on, and proves to be one of the best songs on this album.

$2.00

Superhuman  – I am wondering who did the sequencing on his album, cause it appears that the end of his ablum is shaping up to saving this album from being one of the worst r&b albums of the year. Here, Ginuwine sings another emotional builder as he talks about how he has to be Superhuman to resist the love of a young lady.

$1.70

Two Reasons I Cry - On this song, Ginuwine sings about the two reasons he cries...the passing of his mother and father. This song hits awfully close to home, and I feel Ginuwine puts his heart and soul into this song. Good ish 'G'.

$2.00

Just Because – The beat is nice, and its a catchy dance track that could be forgotten in about 2 seconds. On this song, Ginuwine talks about that just becasue he has game, doesn't mean he's going to forget about a certain girls name.

$.25

Well, hardcore Ginuwine fans may be impressed..but this album is certainly the worst effort Ginuwine has put out thus far. I'm sure he had a lot on his mind during recording this album, but cutting ties with one of the hottest producers in the world is a big no no for the 'G' man. On his previous two albums, his voice was overlooked for its weakness due to the hot tracks he had with the decent lyrics. Now, Ginuwine's problems vocally are more apparent, and some songs on this album belong on a pop stars album lyrically. Not all is lost on this album, there are still some songs that are good, but its not enough to make this album (as a whole) worth the 14.99 price tag. I say download some of the tracks you like off of the internet, and wait for Ginuwine to come out  with his fourth album. G'man is usually known for bringing something new to the table for r&b artists, but this album is nothing more than a generic, and typical, r&b showing.

Album worth: $14.25

Album price: $14.99
