Based on a True Story

A Review by

Vigilante

Two hot female r&b releases this week, Vigilante here can hardly contain himself. Lil' Mo has been blessing other people's track for the entire year, and she has finally decided to drop her long awaited album. Vigilante here had this album a long time ago, minus about two tracks. It was hot then, and the hotness has yet to wear off now.

Intro – Cute little intro that has a young lil' mo singing a gospel in front of her parents, and them taping it and praising her like parents do at that age. Saying she's going to be a star one day.

$.20

My Story – The grown up lil Mo sings the same song from the Intro (RIPPING THAT SHIT). Then we get into the song 'My Story'. Where Lil' Mo talks about where she came from, her dreams, and how she made it to where she is now.

$4.50

Supa Star (J Star)  – This song wasn't on the original version of this album, and why its on here now is kind of baffling. Its kind of weak. On this track, she sings about how everyone wants to be a supa star.

$.50

Superwoman pt.2 (ft. Fabolous) Another track that wasn't on the 1st edition of this album, but unlike Supa Star..this is a welcome addition. First (technically second) single off of this album.  On this track Lil' Mo uses a futuristic beat to tell a man out there that she is a superwoman sent her to stop women from playing him. And Fabolous comes in to bless the track...where is that cats album? And better question...where is Superwoman pt1?

$4.00

Player Not The Game
(ft. Carl Thomas)I usually find Carl Thomas to be the most boring man on Earth, but this track (which was on the first version) and his song with Faith on the Bad Boy Family cd have gained him some respect from me. Anyway, this song is wonderfully written and sang...and just is a hot song. No way to get around it.

$5.00

"On a colidascope of love. People go round and round in circles. Fallin in love and in pain. But its the player not the game." - Lil Mo & C. Thomas

How Many Times  –  On this track, Lil Mo questions how many times she has to write, call, request her favorite song on the radio till the man who she logns after finaly realizes that she wants him to be hers.

$3.50

2Moro –  Another track Vigilante hasn't heard of before. This song really sounds like Missy Elliots vibe on here. Don't hold me to it though. Anyway, the beat is pretty funky..but the lyrics and vocals on this track are pretty weak. Vigilante is beginning to worry that Mo took off some of her good tracks to put on more radio friendly tracks.

$1.00

Friends (Those Girls) - Funny ass track, probably will be a single soon. Here, Lil Mo says that she will never bring her guy around her friends again. Cause the same girls that say her man ain't bout shit, trying to holla at him when her back is turned. Only if you guys knew how true this track is.

$3.75

Gangsta  –  On this track, lil Mo brings that ol 'Gin & Juice' beat back from "Doggystyle" and compeltely ass fucks everything that track stood for. Never again should anyone do this. Never.

$.00

Saturday - This has been one of my favorite songs for quite sometime, I just was waiting for this album to finally drop so other people could make it one of their favorites. Anyway, on this track Lil Mo talks about how someone said they would love you always..but it was nothing but bullsh*t.

$5.50

"Siad you would love me for always. But always ended Saturday. How could you look me in my face. Knowing you wasn't leaving her in the first place." - LiL' Mo

She Could Never Be Me  – On this track, Lil' Mo says that another girl could never be the woman she Mo can be...cause anything she can do, Mo says she could do it better.

$5.50

"What kind of girl is she, to leave her family. She could never be me, cause thats not what I would do." - Lil Mo

Time After TimeNot sure if this track is a Cindi Lauper track first or not, anyway..its definately a remake. And Lil Mo definately blesses this track. I liked the original version...I love this song now.

$5.00

Outro – The beat is just like "My Story", and she just changes the lyrics to fit a closing piece.

$.20

I Ain't Gotta (Bonus Track)This bonus track is just aiight. Nothing special. Here Lil' Mo talks about  making a booty call, and that she ain't gotta do nothign tomorrow..so lets do it.

$1.20

Ta Da (Bonus Track)This track came out a long time ago (LAST SUMMER), and was to be the first single. Unfortunately the album was delayed numerous times. Here it is in all its glory. On this track, Mo sings about

$4.00

"Ta Da, tryin to make you disappear. Make you pack your bags, get the hell outta here." Ding dongs" the sound I'm waiting for the taxis out side and the driver at the door." - Lil mo

I think I liked the first version of this album a lot more than I did this one, but this version is still hot. If only songs like Starstruck had remained on this album, this could be a hot all the way through cd. Instead, there are a couple of bumps in the road..but when there aren't any bumps...this cd definately rolls.

Album worth: $43.85

Album price: $14.99

-Now that you've read something, he's written. Wouldn't you like to find out more about Vigilante? Here you go.
