| -REVIEW INTRO-Hate her, love her...you know the name Britney Spears. Well, the growing
pop princess is back releasing her third and self titled album "Britney". The
first single off the album has been doing pretty well, and the video has caused many hand
cramps in male college dorms. However, does Britney's first single indicate the flow of
the rest of the album? Let's take a look.
-TRACK RUN-DOWN-
1. I'm A Slave First single off the album, and on this track Britney gets a little more grown up...almost erotic. I love the video, and the beat is great..however...Britney's poor vocals and cookie cutter lyrics make this track rather laughable after a few listens. I will be her slave though. She says that this song is about her being a slave to music.....riiight.Track Rating: $1.50 2. Overprotected This song has a very Nysnc vibe to it, as Britney talk about how her life has been so overprotected. Its nothing special, more typical bubblegum.$0.45 3. Lonely Here Britney tells a guy she broke up with that she doesn't want to be lonely, but she's not going to let him back. The beat on this tracks makes the song tolerable, but is almost to loud with Britney's nasal vocals.$0.75 4. I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman I can see this song having an effect on a lot of young girls who are at the point in their life when they aren't girls or women. I think if this song was done by someone with a little more vocal range/talent...it could be beautiful. Instead, its just a decent song.$1.00 5. Boys On this song, another Neptunes sounding track, Britney gets a little naughty. She sings about how sometime she needs 'boys', though she may not be there tomorrow..tonight is tonight. So make your move while you can. Unfortunately, the beat sounds pretty rehashed, and Britney is doing the Ray J talk/singing thing that is very odd.$.40 6. Anticipating This sounds like an f'n LFO song. Shoot me in the head please. Britney says she'll be anticipating the feeling she has for her male friend when she hears their song. This song gives me a headache. Its one of those songs they play at the roller rink when couples are holding hands....shoot me.$.00 7. I Love Rock n' Roll The princess of pop is known for one thing. On every cd, she has to go and take a classic Rock track and..well..ass fuck it. She should not do this..ever again. $0.20 8. Cinderella - Britney regresses back to her days during the original album where she would use synthesizers throughout the entire song to distort her voice. Ah, what waste. Anyway, on this track Britney says that she's sorry for running away like this and that she's just trying to live her life..but Cinderella has got to go. You've got to be kidding me?$0.10 9. Let Me Be Britney follows Craig David and Nysnc, and incorporates a nice little 2 step melody into this track. Here, she talks about how some male thinks that she won't be able to make it out on her own..but she says just let her be.$1.75 10. Bombastic Love This is more of ol' school Britney, but this song is a little to catchy for its own damn good. Unlike most of the previous tracks, this has single potential. The beat pretty sweet, and I can see a lot of the TRL kids dancing to something like this. Oh, and the title is nothing more than an adjective to emphasize how precious the love.$1.00 11. That's Where You Take Me - Another two step track on this album, and this one is perfect. I can see myself swinging back and forth with some young lady as this track whispers in the background. Its a peaceful, and pretty song.$2.20 12. What's It Like To Be Me (ft. Justin Timberlake) Britney's boyfriend, Timberlake, helped write this song for Britney. Unfortunately, Justin wrote all the good ish for Nysnc, and gave Britney some B.S. On this song, Britney (and Justin in the background) sing about how that people don't know what its like to be them. Its nice to see the couple working together, just would've been better if the song was a little better.$.50 |
| The Best Tracks: | The Last Word(s): This CD is probably the worst of Britney's releases. Not because it is any more cookie cutter than the rest, but because there are very few songs that would be good singles. Because of this, most of this album is rather forgettable. Britney fans will probably love, but other pop fans may want just a little more substance in their pop. (Boy is that an oxymoron) Album Worth: $9.85 Album price: $13.28 |
