The title of
the CD is "Iowa" so it would only be right that one of the Iowans from GYEAH.com
spin this CD around and throw a review of it at ya'. This kind of rock isn't everyone's
taste, but Vertigo jumped at the opportunity to review it. Here's his take on the new
Slipknot CD....
1.
515 - Really nothing of any value here, sounds like one of those backwards messages
in the song...but I have no clue what it's really saying...
Value: $.15
2. People=Shit - i'd have to say that this is probably the
best song on the whole cd.....the whole chorus involves them chanting "people equal
shit" over and over...not very original....but kinda catchy.
"What do you want from me?/They never told me the failure i was supposed to be."
Value: $3.00
3. Disasterpeice - Another average song...as always with
Slipknot the
drumwork and fast pace of the song help, but when the lyrics make no sense or are just
downright stupid I ain't entertained.
"I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound/wanna push my face in and feel the
swoon."
Value: $.50
4. My Plague - Now this is actually a decent song...something
like the
Slipknot I remember from a few years ago.....on this song they talk about
how they are degraded and made insignificant by somebody else(hmmm, i guess that's pretty
much the entire story of this cd.....shit)
"I know why you blame me/i know why you plague me."
Value: $1.00
5. Everything Ends - Once again Slipknot goes with their
calling, one hell
of a hardcore metal song, here Shawn (lead singer) talks about how his life is a
lie(nothing new) and how he hates you(heard this before?)but despite being similar to all
of their songs, this one actually has some damn good lyrics.....almost poetic.....
"You are all fucked and overrated/I think I'm gonna be sick and it's your
fault......."
"My flaws are the only thing left that's pure/Can't really live, can't really
endure/Everything I see reminds me of her......."
Value: $2.00
6. The Heretic Anthem - HOLY SHIT!!! Listen to the first
minute plus of
this song and tell me you don't wanna go break something! The chorus here doesn't really
make much sense to me(if you're 555, then i'm 666) this is the first single off the new
cd, and it's pretty damn good in my
opinion....just not living up to "Wait and Bleed."
"All the money in the world can't buy me/GO AHEAD, LIE TO ME/Tell me again how you're
tortured/I wanna know how you followed your orders so well/You're full of shit/You had a
dream, but this ain't it......"
Value: $2.50
7. Gently - Very low-key song. It starts with a couple
minutes of instrumental...and then very little to speak of for the rest of the 5
minutes. Filler track....
Value: $.10
8. Left Behind - I'd just like to point out that the last
song was worth less than the intro...how pathetic is that? Ahh, now this song actually has
a point....I'm just not sure what it is. But I'm guessing that it has something to do with
surviving an event which took the lives of others. (the Rapture?) It also kinda reminds me
of a movie title starring the older son from Growing Pains about the earth blowing up.
Coincidence? God I hope so.......
"I can feel it on my mouth/I can taste you on my fingers/I can hear you like the holy
ghost/and kill you if you get too close."
Value: $1.50
9. The Shape - I'm not sure if I like this song or not, it
sounds like I've
already heard this song before...about 8 times up to this point.
Value: $.25(yeah, it's worth more than the intro)
10. I Am Hated - This is a nice fast track, and like the
title suggests,
they talk about how nobody likes them. Which is kinda wierd since they're
one of the most popular rock bands in the world today. This is still a hell
of a mood changer though...and I'm sure a few staff members could use this as their new
theme song.
"Everything sucks and i can prove it/Everyone dies, shuffle on, remove
it......"
Value: $1.00
11. Skin Ticket - I know that they promised this cd would be
alot darker
than the last. But what they didn't say is that they would sell out to
Satin and put out another shock-rock cd that sounds like an updated Black
Sabbath. Aside from a quick math lesson on addition, there ain't much to
this song.
"Zero and Zero is nothing but Zero."
Amount: $.30
12. New Abortion - Forget the title for a minute.....this
song really has
some meaning to it...here they talk about how they are oppressed by
government control and the law trying to steal all of their souls. Good ish.
"How's it feel to be the New Abortion?/The only generation to suffer
extortion.........."
"Everywhere you look it's like they know/Their fingerprints are hidden by
control/This is where the line is drawn, see/YOU CAN'T TAKE MY SOUL AWAY FROM
ME......"
Value: $2.00
13. Metabolic - This is where this cd falls short of being
great...they
follow up a great song like New Abortion with this crap....nothing more than screaming,
don't waste your time.
Value: $.30
14. Iowa - I'm marking out for the song title. It starts off
with some
eerie woman's screams over nothing but a bass guitar and drums. This sounds like one of
those songs you would find on a Halloween sounds cd. I'm not entirely sure, but i believe
this song is written from the perspective of a killer, watching his victim suffer. This is
a hell of a long song, weighing in at over 15 minutes....and i think there may even be
some subliminal messages in the middle. Just my advice, avoid this song if you are
currently on any anti-depressants.
Value: $1.50
Wow, this cd surprised the hell out of me when I heard it the first time. I had heard that
Slipknot planned on making this cd much darker than their first. But what i didn't know is
that this cd would be have so much to do with Satan. I'm not really digging that. Slipknot
has always made great music to turn up all the way and scream along with. It seems that
they've expanded their talents to music to scare little children with. While I'm sure this
cd was made to shock and disgust people, I'm not sure how appropriate it is anymore
considering the direction the world is headed.
Album worth: $17.00
