Luther Vandross

A Review by

Vigilante

The man who changes his weight sizes as much as Stalker 'flog's the dolphin'...Luther Vandross returns to the scenes with a new cd. Does this album continue Luther's downward spiral of music, or does it return to the musical roots he cemented in the early part of his career...let's take a gander.

Take You Out  Lutha starts off his self titled album saying 'excuse me miss" and  asking a woman he meets if its possible that he can take them out tonight.

$1.40

"To the movies, to the park, I'll have you home before its dark. So let me know, can I tak you out tonight." - Luther V.

Grown Thangs  – Mr. Vandross speeds the track up a bit as this could easliy be a dance track in some places. Here, Luther talks about how he wants to drop the kids off with his mom, go our to the club, and then come back and do some thang...grown thangs. GO AHEAD Lutha!!

$1.10

Bring Your Heart To Mine  – On this ballad, Luther takes it home. Here he sings his ass off about how a girl who is going from man to man, never really finding love.  When her heart really should be his.

"Just cause he wants to make love, Doesn't mean he's in love with you. Maybe one day you'll wake up, then you'll have to face up to the truth. I don't wanna be a hater, but he really needs to raise up of you. I don't care what it takes girl, its to much at stake girl. I'll come for you anytime, just to bring your heart to mine."

$2.75

Can Heaven Wait Lutha brings in another ballad as he talks about how his girl was in a tragic accident. She's in the hospital on her death bed, and he will give anything to trade places with her. He says he wants to change the way he lived and how he did her wrong, and asks can heaven wait one more night. Man..Luther knows how to do it.

$2.50

Say It Now – Another catchy dance track here for Luther, giving you something to nod your head and pop your fingers to. Here, Luther sings about how its good to say I Love you...and not to wait cause they may not always be there. Say it now.

$1.00

I'd Rather –  Luther slows it back down, as he sings how he'd rather be angry and with his woman, than fine and alone...he'd rather be with the one who holds his heart. Beautiful song. Luther is da man!!

$2.50

How Do I tell Her –  I'm digging this slow/fast/slow thing Luther's doing here. Another fast paced track where Luther sings pondering the question how does he tell her that he doesn't want to be with her anymore. Not that she's done anything wrong, but he just doesn't want to be there anymore.

$1.50

Any Day Now - This song is extremely SLOW, almost too slow. Here Luther sings about how any day now his girl will be gone.

$1.20

If I Was The One - Luther tears the roof down on this track, as he tells a lady that If he was the one that she was running to everything would be great.

$3.00

Let's Make Tonight The Night –  Another fast paced track here, as Luther sings about they should make tonight the night. Interesting little song here, as Luther tries singing with the speed of the beat. Pretty nice.

$1.70

Like I'm Invisible - On this track Luther, says that he wants to make things better and improve the relationship but she doesn't even acknowledge him...treating him like he's invisible.

$1.50

Are You There (With Another Guy)  – Luther goes into sniper mode on this track, as he says he's standing in the bushes and thinking about knocking on the door as he wonders  if his girl is in there...with another guy instead of him.

$1.00

Love Forgot Luther brings it all home with a final ballad, that says love forgot that we depend on it, that its the only way poetry will ever rhyme. nice closer.

$1.10

Out of all the r&b albums to drop this week, this is the way to go. Luther once again reclaims the drive and emotion that he put into his music in the early 90's and earlier, and now he does it again in 2000. This album is for the young and old, new Luther fans and old. This self-titled album shows that the old man still has what it takes to eat up most of the new school singers in today's industry.

Album worth: $22.25

Album price: $13.99
