Songs In A Minor

A Review by

Vigilante

The 19 year old pianist/singer who has taken the summer by storm with the heart felt and home hitting "Fallin" single, Alicia Keys has made a mark on the music world. The lady is being compared to India Arrie, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild and other soulful/artistic r&b singers. Let's see if that heavy burden is carried on this girl's tiny frame.

Piano & I – On this intro, Alicia twinkles the keys as she talks about how it may have taken her two years to get this album out, but she's fully prepared and less lost than she was when she first got the deal. She has a pretty sexy voice when not singing...kind of ghetto.

$1.00

Girlfriend (Jermaine Dupri)This track is hot, and something Vigilante can relate to big time. On this track, Alicia talks about how she's starting to feel jealous towards her mans female friend. Any male who has a girl that feels uneasy about your female friends, or if you are that girl...this track is meant for you.

$4.50

"I think I'm jealous of your girlfriend. Although she's just a girl that is your friend." - Alicia Keys

How Come You Don't Call Me – This song mixes a church vibe with a  jazz feel, and its done masterfully. Alicia is one of the few r&b musicans and singers. Anyway, on this track Alicia takes it home asking her man why if everything is meant to be, if we're never supposed to part, how come you don't call me anymore. HOT ISH!!

$4.00

Fallin First single from this wonderful gift to the ears. This song has single handledly made Alicia a force to be reckoned with. On this track, a track ALL people can relate to. Alicia croons about how she keeps getting trashed by her man, and is ready to leave...but then she just keeps fallin back in love with him. Alicia lets those piano keys have it on this track.

$5.50

"I'm fallin, in and out of love with you. I never loved someone the way that I loved you." - Alicia Keys

Troubles –
This track slows down even more, and puts you in a liad back jazzed out count of feel. Here, Alicia uses this state of calm from the track convery that all your worries and your troubles...just let em go.

$2.00

Rock With U –  Whenever I hear this track, I can't help but get that same feel I get from the 'Shaft' theme song.  I just keep waiting to hear Isaac Hayes come in and start singing. Anyway, on this great ensemble band piece Alicia talks about how she just wants to Rock with U..no matter what we do. This isn't a song to really showcase her vocal ability, but to show off the instruments and just have an ol school kinda jazz track. I really am feeling this track.

$3.00

A Woman's Worth –  Alicia takes it to the roof on this track, as she sings a song to the men. On this track she says that a real man knows a real woman when he sees her, and that there is nothing that will stop him from pleasing her cause their is nothing that equals her worth.

$5.00

"You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her first. She will and she can find a man who knows her worth."

Jane Doe - I LOVE this song. There's no doubt about it. The piano cords with the lyrics and catchy hook and topic make this song destined to be single number 2. On this track Alicia says that she has to be crazy to let her man go to some other Jane Doe.

$5.50

"I'd be crazy to let my man go, to some other Jane Doe." - Alicia Keys

Goodbye  –  On this track, Alicia talks about how hard it is to let go of someone and tell them goodbye when its the only love you've ever known...and she questions how do you find the words to say goodbye.

$5.50

"When your heart don't have the heart to say...to say goodbye. Find the words to say goodbye."

The Life - This song reminds me SO much of Mary J. Blige, its almost disturbing. Good thing is, sounding like Mary isn't necessarily a bad thing (when she's not on crack, she's pretty hot) Anyway, on this track Alicia talks about the struggles she goes through in life, and that she's just trying to survive.

$3.00

Mr. Man (ft. Jimmy Cozier)  – The beat on this bad boy brings the heat. Bongos mixed with violins, and of course Alicia on the Ivories. On this track, Alicia and Jimmy change up their style a little to make an addictive song that people can just hum and listen to.

$5.50

Never Felt This Way (Interlude)This Interlude just has Alicia on the piano keys tapping away, and singer her damn ass off. This chick is the real deal. I really wish this wasn't a 2 minute interlude..this lude is so pretty.

$3.50

Butterflyz – Alicia sings about the uncontrollable butterflyz she gets in her stomach when a man gives her a feeling she wasn't  prepared for or expecting. Nice piano work here. This girl can do it all.

$3.50

Why Do I Feel So Sad – On this track, Alicia says that she new one day things would have to change, and she would have to leave her love behind...but why does she feel so sad. Man, how many people can relate to this track. You know you have to break up with someone, and yet you still feel sad when it actually happens.

$4.00

Caged Bird – A track for all those people who feel locked down, and are hiding something within themselves...this is a song for you. As Alicia simply states...I know why the caged bird sings. ...and its time to set her free, so she can fly.

$3.00

Lovin U – On this track, Alicia takes a church/ol school feel to get across how easy and natural lovin her loved one comes.

$3.00

I can't really speak good enough about this album. Words alone would not do it justice. All I'm going to say is go get it. The worth may seem off the wall, but after you listen to this album..it won't seem like enough.

Album worth: $61.50

Album price: $14.99
