Two Funny Bastards? Or Two Retards?

A Review by

The Goc

I don't know a whole hell of a lot about this comedy duo. I know the basics by their performances on HBO. If you're unaware Tenacious D is made up of actors Jack Black (High Fidelity) and Kyle Gass. Don't expect real songs from these foolios, this is a comedy album through and through. But is it funny? We're about to find out...

1. KIELBASA A song about weiners is pretty much all this one is. And I'm not talking about Oscar Meyers, I'm talking about those scary lookin' things we have in our pants. Nothing too hilarious here, but putting "kielbasa sausage" in a song hook is pretty sweet.

"Dude, we gotta fucking write something."

"I love ya baby, but all I can think about is kielbasa sausage, your buttcheeks is warm."

Track Rating: $0.50

2. ONE NOTE SONG This is supposed to be comedy as Black just plays one note on his guitar and claims that constitutes a song. Not funny...not even a smile.

$0.05

3. TRIBUTE This is one of the funniest damn songs I've ever heard, and if it wasn't for this one I wouldn't even have voluntered to review this damn album. This song is supposedly a tribute to the "Best Song in the World" that they were forced to sing by a demon. Interesting, haha.

"He was forced to set us free, by the article that demons have to live by."

$3.00

4. WONDERBOY Not funny.

$0.15

5. HARD FUCKING This is just a little talking back and forth about how the ladies aren't really down with the hard flogging. Which is funny, but isn't more than a few seconds.

"The ladies don't really like the hard fucking."

"You feel like you're giving 'em the extra juice."

$0.10

6. FUCK HER GENTLY– This song is a response to what was discussed on the last track. Black & Gass are more than jack hammers in bed, they also have the ability to lay pipe gently. Nice. Problem is it's shorter than my weiner and I'm older than 12, so I don't giggle at every use of the word "fuck."

"Sometimes you got to make some love, and fucking give us some smooches too."

$0.60

7. EXPLOSVIO Lots of crazyness and all sorts of shouting. I guess this is when the frat boys are supposed to get krazy and jump around. Ummm...I'm not down.

$0.20

8. DIO - Apparently the D are looking to team up with this "Dio" bastard in some sort of musical orgy....err something. Sorry, but I have no idea what they speak of, hence I don't get it. Seems alot like sex that way....weird.

$0.20

9. INWARD SINGING – This is a little skit where Black devises a new idea to "rock the crowd," that being singing inward where other's would breathe. Retarded. I love the "naysaying" comments though.

"The most powerful musical invention since yodeling."

$0.10

10. KYLE QUIT – This song is as you guessed it, about Kyle quitting the ban but now they're back together again. It's so sweet :P. They even talk of making "cash" and using it to buy "hash." That=comedic genius. I'm being sarcastic for the idiots out there.

$0.05

11. THE ROAD - A song about life on the road for a musicians, something I don't think the D have any idea about. But hey, what do I know. In this skit, they get a gig, where they have to pay the cover to perform. Mildy comical.

"You'd actually have to pay the cover to get in."

$0.10

12. COCK PUSHUPS – A skit where Black enlightens Gass on the art of cockpushups. He's began a strict regimine of getting his peter ready for the groupies that will follow. Pretty funny, I guess I can't deny that.

"You think when the album is out, it will make us more attractive to the ladies?"

$0.50

13. LEE – Completely and utterly pointless. If you actually bought this CD, then this song should prove without a doubt that you got robbed!

$0.05

14. FRIENDSHIP TEST – On this skit Black tells Gass that he loves him and passes it off as a friendship test. Funny on perhaps a TV show, but it's not that great on a CD.

$0.10

15. FRIENDSHIP – This song as you guessed it is about friendship. It's more idiotic rhyming for no apparent reason.

"Friends will be friends, running naked in the sand."

"As long as there's a record deal, we'll always be friends."

$0.20

16. KARATE SCHNITZEL – Black pulls out some Karate moves when Gass eats his schnitzel. I'm not amused.

$0.05

17. KARATE – This one is half funny, and if I knew the words and sung it to someone while in a drunken state, I admit that it would be hilarious. Not bad.

"You broke the rules, now I'll pull out all your pubic hair."

$0.70

18. ROCK YOUR SOCKS – The D proclaim their ability to rock the crowd on this track, despite all that they've been through. Is it that hard to make a funny song? These guys make Adam Sandler look like a genius.

"Your manager who's been with you for years, has found your secret stash."

$0.20

19. DRIVE THRU – This skit has D at a drive thru and Black has one hell of a complicated order because he's trying to 'watch his figure.' The scary thing is, I bet there are people that really pull shit like this at drive thrus. I refuse to ever work in fast food.

$0.25

20. DOUBLE TEAM – Sex with Black & KG is the theme of this song. It has a few moments where you might crack a smile, but today I seem to be more stonefaced than usual. So I suppose I'll take that into consideration.

"Take off your blouse and underpants!"

$0.50

21. CITY HALL – Some ranting about those in city hall. And how the D should be leading the show. WTF?

$0.30

Every frat boy in the world is going to hate me with a passion. I've pissed on American Pie 2 and now Tenacious D, I'm a marked man by the Greek society. They day they actually get me though, is the day Tenacious D makes a funny album all the way through. Which didn't happen today, and probably never will...

Album worth: $7.90

Album price: $16.99
