Diggin' The Tombs

A Review by

Vigilante

The soundtrack from one of the films Vigilante is seriously looking foward to this year has arrived. Lara Croft's videogame adventures has been made into a live action movie, and Vigilante has the task of listening to accompanying soundtrack. Let's dig into the tombs shall we.

Elevation 'Tomb Raider mix' (U2) The original version of this song is now a classic, and has given U2 the respect in music that they once had. On this mix, the words remain the same but the beat is a little more intense & jungle-esque. Kick ass way to start the soundtrack off.

$2.50

Deep (Nine Inch Nails) I haven't listened to a Nine inch Nails track in a few years. So, I'm not sure where their music has gone and come to, but this track isn't all that great. NIN heads might mark out, but I think even they know that NIN can come a lot better than this.

$1.00

Galaxy Bounce (Chemical Bros.)The beat to this one sounds like some rap track from years past. The Chemical Brothers rock like always. They are the kings of soundtracks.

$1.25

Get Ur Freak On Rmx (Missy Elliott/Nelly Furtado) Talk about unseen combos!! Anyway, the classic beat from Timbo and Missy are used wonderfully by Nelly as she does some Reggae/skat type rhymes over the already freaky beat. Nelly shows she has some more to offer to the table besides her hot "I'm like a bird" track. This track ain't joking around.

"And Missy's the woman who always be cookin, s-something for Nelly Furtado to come dip her vibe in. From D.c to Detroit and all round the world come. Giddy up giddy up,back back  up to my girl. " - Nelly Furtado

$3.00

Speed Ballin' (Outkast) Outkast is well known for their other worldy, other country type music. They don't fail to do the same here, well...Andre that is. This track is only 1 minute and a half long, and Dre spits for about 40 seconds of that minute. The rest of the time the off the wall beats plays. I love Outkast to death, but this track would be so much better had it been 2 times longer.

$.80

Ain't Never Learned (Moby)  – Good ol Moby follows the tradition of the rest of the soundtrack, and gives us that jungle dance track. Hearing this track can do nothing but get someone even more hype for the summer blockbuster. This seems like the perfect track to get someone's fight on...guess they 'Ain't Never Learned' not to mess with Ms. Croft. (I know it was corny...sue me)

$1.50

The Revolution (BT) Some crazy techno littered with sound effects. This one is nice, Romml would approve. Hardcore and something everyone can love...all at the same time. Mark out.

$1.25

Terra Firma Lara's Mix (Delerium) - I'm really starting to dig this jungle, egyptian, and other country feel this album is sending off. This is a slower dance track, something that Vigilante here would pop in when just driving around on a tense day just to relax. The instruments and light vocals add the perfect touch.

$1.75

Where's Your Head At (Basement Jaxx)  – This is house music that doesn't really do anything  for me but ask "Where's Your Head At?" many and many a times. One of the weaker tracks on this album.

$.00

Illuminati (Fatboy Slim)  – I'm not usually a Fat Boy slim fan, his dance tracks littered with repeated phrases just usually doesn't do it for me. But this one is loud and has a solid beat. Seems perfect for the movie and the obvious action scenes it will accompany.

$1.00

Absurd (Fluke) This here is a techno track, I like techno, but this isn't a track that I'm really feeling that much. HOWEVER, this track definately fits in with the rest of the pattern this Tomb Raider soundtrack has.

$.60

Song of Life (Leftfield)  – Tomb Raider hits us up with another techno track, and its a nice little addition to the rest of the album. There appears to be a lot of tracks on here that will be used when Lara puts her foots into someone's ass. This song definately has a feeling of life....I love the piano.

$1.20

Edge Hill (Groove Armada) - A slow track, which seems to be rare on this album. The bass is house rocking though. But in the end, this one is just too slow to really get into.

$.30

Satellite (Bosco)Another of many tracks to reflect the locale of the film. Here, the dance mix (something that the character Lara croft afores in the film) uses a futurisic voice to repeat the word Satellite and its uses over and over again. It gets tired quickly, and the beat is a little to generic for my liking.

$.20

Devil's Nightmare (Oxide & Neutrino)  – This track blends house music with a litlte hip hop flare, and it comes off very well. A hellish way to end the soundtrack.

$2.00

It appears to Vigilante here that about 80 percent of the songs on this album were pulled from previous albums, and meshed together to make a soundtrack suitable for this film. I don't own any of the artist albums on here (save for Outkast and Missy though the remix isn't on her album) so this was a nice pick up for me. However if you do own some of these albums, then it may prove to be dissapointing. I really like how they pulled tracks and made new tracks that helped create the feel that the movie is giving off. I'm definately even more excited to see this film than I was before I heard it.

Album worth: $18.35

Album price: $14.99
