| The second Volume
in the Violator series seemed primed to follow in the footsteps of the original album with
the first single "What It Is" by Bustah Rhymes being such a classic.
Unfortunately, after hearing this entire album..vigilante can feel nothing bu Violated.
Take a look below to see why. Fortune
(Intro) This song is an interulde where
a deep voice speaks over several different beats showing upcoming releases from Violator
records. THis is fine and all, but would've been much better located at the end of this
album..or on a bonus disc. Instead, this just acts as a horrible opener to this album.

What It Is (Bustah Rhymes)
HOT SHIT!!! This track has filtered through many sound sytems in this summer, and its yet
another notch in the Neptunes belt. This track is great to bump in the jeep, get the club
scene hot, and has a catchy hook that everyone is drawn to sing too.
$4.50
Grimey (Noreaga)
Another Neptunes track here, not really
expecting anything different since this is a NORE track. Anyway, the beat is pretty hot.
But like usual...Noreaga raps about nothing more than to here his own voice. If you
like Nore...you'll probably love this. If you like Nore on occasion like me..then there's
nothing really breakthrough here.
$1.00
Put Your Hands Up (LL Cool J) Ok, if its not a rock track or
jazz type track..I have a problem when a song uses the first minute to just let the beat
ride out. ESPECIALLY when the song is only 3 minutes in the first place. No matter, the
beat is pretty hot and like always LL drops some pretty decent lyrics. Of course, the
lyrics (unless he has a point) sound pretty lazy overall.
$1.50
Livin In The City (Butch Cassidy & Da Franchise) This is one of those tracks you expect Nate Dogg just jump
out and sing the gangsta-esque hook. Unfortunately, with the pimped out beat..the lyrics
on this track are laughable at the least. "You sicker than me? You sound
sick."...wtf is that.
$.50
I Come Thru (Styles & Noreaga) I heard this track somewhere before, and loved the hell out of it then.
This duo uses the kid singing in the background technique that Jigga and now Trick Daddy
use. Unlike those two though, this kids thing is only used in the chorus...when the verses
come in the beat just kicks hte hell off into some futuristic ish. Its pretty wild. Styles
and Nore come with some pretty hot lines too.
$3.50
"Here's why they call me the
ghost. I'm half live, half dead. And when its beef I bring all of the toast. And I got
more guns then most of new york, and I ain't gotta say shit, cause the toasters will
talk." - Styles
We Are (Funkmaster Flex, Memphis Bleek, Geda
K) Um...look at the people on this track..and you
already know what to expect. That is EXACTLY what you get with this rather uninspired
track.
$.75
Fiend (Jo Jo Pellegrino) Wow, a track that doesn't use a futuristic ass beat. This track is hip hop
in its purest form. He just spits on a classic-esque hip hop beat, and its hot.
$3.00
Sexual Chocolate (Cee Lo) - The man from Goodie
Mob that just about everyone knows. From that, you can decipher if you like his scratchy
rapping singing style that he is known for. I do, and this song is pretty decent. He's
come a lot better than this, but its not something I would crash my car trying to cut off.
$1.50
Ex (Missy Elliott, Tweet, and Ja
Rule) This song is a little different from the previous
track on this album. Here Ja Rule changes his style to that of Missy's. This track is
typical Missy song, singy songy with rap in between. If you like that (I do), then you
might like this. Even though I like her style, this song is not something I will spend
many listens on.
$.75
U Feel Me (Fat Joe, Remy Martin,
Capone, Noyd) This Remy Martin simply rips this track to shit.
In fact, she is the best part of this song. Everyone else does cool, but she's just
hot..and long overdue for an album herself. Also..this track goes on for WAAAAAAAY too
long. Someone needed to tell them that if they were going to have a cypher this huge, they
should have increased the hotness of the track.
$1.25
Livin The Life (Jadakiss &
Prodigy) This track takes two of the hottest mc's from New York, and
just gives them both a chance to shine. This track is tight all around the way.
$3.00
Die (The Outfit)
This beat is very engaging, like these cats
aare about to drop some serious knowledge. Instead, there style and vocals are so boring
that the track just suffer from causing deep comma's.
$.25
Grind Season (Kurupt &
Jo Pellegrino) - On this track, Kurupt and Jo rap about how its grind season (sex
time) and how people should stop playing hating cause they going to get theres.
$2.50
Hoppin In My Car (Hollywood & Ludacris) A
sweet little beat here, that created another generic r&b track where Hollywood
talks about she is hoppin in her car to go find her cheatin man. Ludacris's name is
attached to this song..but he's nowhere on it.
$1.00
Next Generation (G Dep,Tah Murder, Fabolous,
Fortune, Jo Jo, and Red Cafe) A nice little cypher hit that showcases some of the hottest young
talent in the streets right now. They all lay down some hot vocal, and let us know that
hip hop may being going to hell (Nelly sold 6 times platinum), but there are still some
bright spots in the enxt generation.
$1.75
Can't Get Enough (Rah Digga, Spliff Starr,
Meka) A Flipmode track that talks about how they can't get enough of sex with
thier partner. Its cool, but its too much r&b and not enough rapin...Rah Digga
specifically.
$1.00
This album fails miserably to compare to the original
Violator album, but even with that being the case. This album still has a little standing
power of its own. The album isn't solid all the way through, and has about 4 tracks out of
17 that are actually worth listening to. Those tracks are definately off the meter, but
not nearly enough to make you buy this. Get the singles from this album, and leave the
rest for the studio to deal with.
