Different Experience

A Review by

Vigilante

I saw the first video for this album a long time ago, with the Neptunes providing the sounds...I thought these Liks were a one hit type of gang. Well, apparently these guys have been in the game for awhile. The "X.O Experience" is their new album that has a feel and style not quite seen by any before it. Is it a good thing or a bad thing....well, its a little bit of both.

Intro – On this intro, the Liks explain their name (alcohoLICKS). They basically say "I enjoy drinking, so I don't really wanna quit". Good to know where the name comes from, but nothing to see here.

$.10

Barcode (ft. Xzibit) This song is straight representing all the alcoholic bastards out there. The beat is hot, as the song samples a song from a while back called "The Dip". Xzibit even lends a few bars to explain the greatness of alcoholism. This is the song that tells the new CODE of the bar. This could be a college anthem.

$3.00

"Put your bottles to your lips. When I sip, you sip, we sip." - The Liks

Run Wild (ft. Shea Fiol)On this track, Tha Liks turn the beat into a rock & roll/hip hop mixture that is hard to explain. On this track, Tha Liks rhyme about how they are coming through your town and its time to RUN WILD.

$2.25

L-i-k-s On this track, Tha Liks gives explanation to each letter in their name. What's wild about this track is that when they call out a letter, they make the bars in that letters part start with the same letter. Once again the beat, is on a rock type feel.

$3.00

"Its 2000 now. What's the motto? Keep it pouring motha f*ka, till it hurts to swallow!!" - Liks

"L. Lush. Lude. Leaning on the ledge of the bar, loud, rowdy and rude. Longetivy, lots of energy. Legendary. Liquid through nigga 4 life. Large Following." - Liks

Bully Foot (Skit) This skit has one of the Liks calling another member of the group, and telling him that he has this banging beat for him to listen to. He can't play it over the phone though, cause it may damage his answering mahcine. I gotta hear this beat.

$.10

Bully Foot (ft. Bustah Rhymes)  – Man, after hearing all the previous beats...and getting the skit talking about how hot this beat would be...I'm a little dissapointed. The baseline does kick like Jet Li, but the song is kind of iffy for me.

$.70

My Dear (ft. Defari) This song is a rock track that samples the "My dear" chant from the beggining of the Joe & Mystikal remix of "Stutter'. On this track, the Liks tell a girl that they know them very well even though they don't know tha Liks, and they tell them the feelings that they have for em. Nice track!

$3.25

Da Da Da (Skit) - Um...nothing here but some pointless rambling. Why do artists do this?

$.00

Da Da Da  – A catchy headknocker that shows that the Liks are very capable of spittin some flows that go beyond alcoholic refrences. On this track, each of the three members just drop some hip hop lines in a 'Def Squad' style of flow.

$3.75

"Hey yo the Alkies set the trends that the whole world follows. Fuck a cd, fuck a tape we should sell this shit in bottles." - Liks

"Niggas call me CPR, I help rap music breathe. With beats and rhymes you wouldn't believe, with ideas that you couldn't conceive. With a hoe on each sleeve with a crew of niggas rolling on these." - Liks

40 oz quartet pt1.   – Lol, this track is hilarious. The beat is from one of LL Cool J's old tracks, and is done from what is to be believed at empty liquor bottles. Here, they talk about how they are just a drunk.

$1.75

Sickness (Butch Cassidy) Ok, you put two and two together. Alcoholicks and Sickness. Just kidding, on this track the Liks with Butch Cassidy say they are like a sickness, cept there is no cure. Another nice rock/hip hop track.

$2.75

Crazy  – Another Rock type track laced with Hip hop lyrics. Here they talk about how they lose their mind when it comes to the hip hop game.

$3.00

"Can't u see, I'm loosing my mind. Going crazy, over this hip hop." - Licks

"I never rap typical, I might change the topic though. I rap about the ghetto, then I switch to something tropical." - Liks

Best U Can (ft. Neptunes) - First single released off the album, as this track is the most commercial and  greatest display of their lyrical talent at the same time. The Neptunes give them a hot ass beat. Here they say that if a girl really wants them, they've got

$4.50

"I know you want me little mama, but tell me what you think about. Girls like you drain a motha fucka's bank account. The cars, the ice, the clothes, the doe. All that for sliding down a motha fuckin pole?" - Liks

40 oz quarter pt.2  – They do the bottle sound again, but use a different beat. On this track they rap for a minute, but then they begin to stutter cause they are to drunk to go any further.

$.20

Anotha Round   – Here, a futuristic beat backs the Liks as they say they basically ask can they get another round on last call. This track is solid...beat wise and lyrically.

$2.00

Yo mouth (skit)   – This skit is pointless as the Liks talk to some woman, telling her that her mouth moves more than her legs.

$.00

The Bubble (King T)   – This beat is WILD!! And the Liks rip it all to hell. Nuff said.

$3.00

"All jokes aside, we slide slippers. Money fallin out my pocket like we robbed nine strippers."- Lliks

1 5 1 (ft. Xzibit)   – On this track, tha Liks spit about how how they are alcoholik niggas...again. Xzibit does the hook on this track. I don't know...these guys have a lot of talent. But rapping about the exact same thing for an entire album can get old real quick.

$1.00

Promote Violins (ft. Kurupt)  Nice play on words here..violins (violence) and the use of violins in the background. This beat is rock to the extreme, and is extremely addictive. Kurupt and the Liks all drop rhymes out of this world.

$3.00

The Liks rap about alcohol in the same fashion that Eminem does about drugs. Its hot ish!! The thing about Em, and most any other rapper. There ENTIRE album isn't about rapping about drugs or whatever one song is about. I know these cats are called the Liks...but they have shown they have a lot more lyrical ability than being reduced to doing an entire album of alky tracks. There are a lot more subjects out there to touch upon. The rock beats mixed with hip hop rhymes  are very hot, its just too bad that after awhile (even though the flow always remains tight) the songs become a little repetitve and boring. Touch this album ONLY if you're a true hip hop mogul.

Album worth: $37.35

Album price: $14.99
